The big time game changer in blogging!

I guess you could say I’m tooting my own horn here but I’ve stumbled upon something really big here, which in my opinion, will change the way bloggers set up their blogs.  What I noticed about my own blog was this — I had many different interests and topics that I like to blog about and my posts often became buried so readers couldn’t find the content relevant to their interests.  They might sift through my sports handicapping posts to get to my Topsy-Turvy tomato pictures or they might just leave.

Other bloggers have solved this problem by creating multiple blogs.  They have a blog for their pro blogging tips, a blog for their photography, a blog for their rants, whatever.  And when you think about this, most people will go out and buy separate domain names for these blogs, install WordPress and go.  In fact, I had done this many times over and the development of the India Project/100websitesin30days.com is based on the premise of 100 different domain names to create a network.  But I’ll tell you, when you get to around 54 of 100, you start to feel the pinch in domain name purchases and remember, they have to be renewed next year.

Back to ScottRAsher.com – I didn’t really want to purchase any more domains but I was tired of my content being all mixed up and THE IDEA occurred to me after having developing a website for a client using WordPress MU – of course, that client was creating a blog for multiple users–the obvious intention of that software.  WordPress MU is a platform that allows someone to create their own Facebook type of site, a social network of blogs, as registered members can log in and create their own blog.  So what I finally did was install WordPress MU on ScottRAsher.com and create 40 subdomains and unique blogs under my main blog.  Now all of my interests and topics are a unique blog with keyword in the domain.  I just took the power of WordPress MU and turned it into a single user situation, creating my very own 40 blog network with just one domain purchase and all controlled by one dashboard.  Combine all this with the WP robot and let’s just say those fools ain’t got no chance.  I’m gonna be rich bitches!

***(MU standing for multi-user). *MU is a side development to the WordPress development and it is still blogs, just a CMS that will manage an infinite amount of blogs under sub-domains.

***Now a person that create 100 or more even blog network with the purchase of only one domain. (12.00) And making targeted sub-domains, a very lethal combination in my mind.

American Idol – More Questions than Lost

I have to admit that I’m not really a fan of American Idol but you’d have to live under a rock to not see it occasionally.  It seems to always be on and last night was a slow tv night so I caught a few minutes of Idol.  Maybe someone out there can answer a couple of questions for me.  It seems that the show raises more questions than the Lost series.

Why does Mike wave his hands like a big baby?

Does Simon have an eye tick or is that a wink?

Does Ellen Degeneres have any musical credentials whatsoever?  Is she really as funny as she pretends?

Would Kara Dio whatever please do another number in a bikini? Really- please!

Will this show ever die and why can’t they find another freak show like Adam Lambert?

Please someone help here.  These American Idol questions are burning like the aftermath of a bad night of taco bell.  Now back to regular programming..

How to Start an Event Photography Business for $5.00

A friend of mine has been playing around with photography for several years, strictly amateur but he lost his job and was struggling for ways to pay the bills – not unlike millions of Americans in today’s economy.  Since he had decent equipment, a digital SLR with a couple of good lenses and plenty of practice, he decided to start an event photography business.  Here’s how to do it:

1.  Sign up for a free photo hosting site that sells prints and photo products, even digital downloads.  For example smug mug, zenfolio or backprint.

2.  Print 1000 business cards on stock paper at the copy store with your name, phone number and web url that they can look at their photos and buy them.  This costs $5 or less at your corner copy store, practically free if you do it with your home printer.

3.  Attend events and snap people’s photographs, hand them the card with the website address and be friendly.

4.  Advertise “free event photography” on craigslist explaining that you will show up and shoot the event for free, they only buy photos that they want.  It’s a win-win as most photographers charge a fee to show up and shoot an event.  For instance, Brightroom, a leading national event photography service pays photographers $30 an hour.  While you’re at it, you should probably sign up to work for them as an event photographer.

5.  Offer to take pictures of kids sports teams, birthday parties, wedding receptions, charitable events, parades, and you can ask establishments if it is ok to take pictures there ie, restaurants on Valentines day, night clubs, karoke bars, etc.  You can take pictures of people anywhere, just be sure that they know they’re getting their picture taken (and want it taken) and give them your card.

My friend told me that it was helpful for him to go out shooting with his wife to greet people, give them the card and she would take their email address so when the photos were uploaded, they’d get a personal email to go check out their photograph.  He also said that just being out in the public, he’d get asked to do other events and more prints were sold from events he was invited to.

There you have it, another make money anywhere idea courtesy of Scott R. Asher.  Enjoy!

Top Ten Reasons to Move to Arizona!

Here’s the thing, Arizona is probably getting excessively bad press over the proposed legislation which would criminalize living in the state illegally, Arizona Immigration Law SB1070 201.  What with California wanting to boycott the state and MLB players threatening walk outs during spring training.  But there will definitely be some upsides suggesting that Arizona might become a good place to live. Here are the top ten reasons to move to Arizona:

1.  Getting rid of illegals will free up tons of parking.

2.  There will be plenty of lawn maintenance and ditch digging jobs available!

3.  I won’t have to speak Spanish at the drive-thru of Taco Bell.

4.  It will be very relaxed because of all the boycotts.  Nobody will be there but John McCain.

5.  I hear Sarah Palin is buying a winter residence there.

6.  You won’t have to talk to your neighbor in Spanish.

7.  TV’s in public locations will be broadcasting programming in English.

8.  Public School classes will be cut in half.

9.  Going to DMV will seem less like a trip to Tijuana.

10.  The donkey show will go back to Nogales.

DIY American Pickers Guide – Part II

For those interested in making money by finding and selling antiques and collectibles, I set out a basic premier in my article Do It Yourself American Pickers Guide.  This article will go into some advanced “picking” techniques.  Frankly, what I’m about to share with you makes those two American Picker guys look like a couple of amateurs.  I mean, they sometimes seem more interested in their tv show than picking cheap items for resale.  So you want to make some money, get your work gloves out because this is not a sit around type of job–it’s down and dirty.

1.  You need some starting cash.  Do whatever you have to do to put a thousand bucks, cash in your pocket.  Can you do it with less?  Yes but you’ll be sorry, I promise you.  Trust me on this, the biggest bankroll wins in this game.

2.  Find a storage auction.  Rather than drive around the country side, trying to swindle old people out of their dusty possessions, go somewhere that there are mountains of possessions up for auction.  In storage unit facilities around the country, people are defaulting on their rent.  After a few months of non-payment, there’s an announcement of a storage lien sale in the newspaper.  The storage facility throws open the door, you get a look inside and the bidding begins.  Now let me tell you, there are many pitfalls in this game and you won’t always find a perfect storage unit – and the secret’s been out on this for awhile so expect a bunch of people there as well–with cash in their pocket.  But you can get mountains of great merchandise to resell from storage unit auctions.  I have personally found treasures and profited from this money making process.

3.  The thing the American Picker guys don’t really explain is how hard it can be to sell this shit.  The program shows “tin can picked – $5, valued $20, profit $15 or whatever.  The really difficult and time consuming part of picking for profit is selling the merchandise.  I don’t care whether it’s antiques, collectibles or toasters, you have to have a market for re-selling or you just end up with a garage full of stuff and cursing my name.  Get ready for this, your best tool for selling this stuff is a garage sale.  a) you should have gotten a bunch of stuff really cheap b) everyone is allowed to have a couple garage sales a year and c) you don’t need a license or pay taxes on it or any of that.  Garage sale + Storage Auction = Pure Profit!

4.  Get some education on what things are worth.  Get some price guides, learn to check closed auctions on eBay–you have to become a worthologist.  Yeah, I made that up but whatever, you get what I’m saying.  You don’t want to be the jackass that sells a painting by a famous artist for five bucks at a garage sale that sells at Christies for 100k, do you?  If you’re going to do any kind of picking, you’ve got to learn how various markets value things.  I could go on and on about this important topic.

This is not an exhaustive article on how to make money in picking but some advanced techniques.  I explained this concept to a friend and he and his wife really ran with it, buying up Las Vegas storage auctions at a frantic pace, becoming powersellers on ebay and having the cops come to shut down their running garage sale.  He wrote a book about it, From Garage Sale to Financial Freedom in Five Steps which I highly recommend you get and when you see the reference to Morpheus, that’s me!.

1,000 Ways to Make Money

The New Corporation Game

I’ve been talking about the benefits of owning a corporation for some time.  I’ve described you you can open a corporate checking account to avoid a personal Chex System problem, how you can “own nothing and control everything.”

For a good long while, there were primarily two states that received the lion’s share of new corporation filings –Delaware and Nevada.  And for good reason, they both had a long history of favorable laws protecting shareholders, officers and it was nearly impossible to pierce the corporate veil.  And they were relatively inexpensive.

After recently forming a new Nevada corporation, and getting hit by the extra business tax the State of Nevada drops on you, I wondered if there is a cheaper alternative.  See Nevada was at one time, the cheapest game in town.  You could make money with a Nevada corporation by doing nothing more than waiting 6 months to sell the empty shell.

The new game in town is still in the Wild West.  Wyoming corporations are the new Nevada corporations.  Cheap to form, cheap to maintain and of course, anyone with an internet connection and just a little patience can do it themselves.  It’s not rocket science.

Just think, you too could enjoy the secret that corporations have been exploiting over the public for so long.  With a corporation, you can appear to earn nothing!  I think I’ll go out and start another one, just to hold my intellectual property that I can lease to my other corporation.  Or maybe a loan!  The possibilities are endless when it comes to corporate debt and debt repayment is not income.  There’s income somewhere down the line but hey, it’s a company- it has expenses, it has debt, it can likely be bankrupt and did I mention that a corporate bankruptcy doesn’t mess with your personal credit??  Think on that.
