Does ChexSystems even matter anymore?

For some reason ChexSystems seems to be slipping out of the picture. I have opened 2 checking accounts recently (last 3 months) and from what I can tell, less banks are using the chexSystems bank account verification system. Then the other day a buddy of mine tells me about a new thing banks are using called Early Warning Systems or (EWS)

So who is EWS? says: Early Warning Services is a limited liability company owned by Bank of America, BB&T Corporation, JPMorgan Chase, Wachovia, and Wells Fargo. From their website describing services to financial institutions.

I think – because banks are now charging $10 a month for bank/checking accounts, the dynamics have changed and banks are opening at risk accounts.

I also was reading, that complaints filed with ChexSystems, are also filed with EWS, I am not sure that is %100 true.
