How to Automate Your Online Job Search

With 16 million jobless in the United States, many are turning to internet sites for job searching. This article will describe how to minimize the amount of time spent on internet job sites. Automated online job searching is easy with the right tools.

1 There are many internet sites where employers post job openings online. Find the sites that you will be searching daily. For this article, I’ll be demonstrating how to automate searching for a job on craigslist.org. Open your browser and go to craigslist for the city you are searching for work. Click the arrow under the search bar and select “jobs”. Type the job you’re looking for. In this case I typed, “Human Resource Director.” Click the arrow next to the search to enter and you’re taken to all of the jobs with your search terms.

2 Open a new browser tab and enter Google Reader in the address bar. Click on the official site of Google Reader. If you don’t have a Google account, create one and download the Google Reader. Among other things, Google Reader allows you to easily add subscriptions to RSS feeds. Leave the tab open, you’re going back to craigslist.

3 Click on your browser’s craigslist tab and go all the way to the bottom to the orange RSS icon. Put your cursor over it and right click, select “copy link address” and enter. You have just copied the RSS feed url for your craigslist search.

Things you’ll need:

  • A computer with broadband connection
  • An RSS feed reader

Tips & Warnings:

  • You can automate anything you search manually for by adding the RSS feed url of the page into an RSS feed reader.

Scott shares his Shark Tank presentation.

yummy

After recently catching an episode of the TV show The Shark Tank. I thought it would be fun to give my Shark Tank Presentation to get investors for my idea! Why not right? I have no idea if my business venture is any good, but like the others coming on the show to pitch their business idea to the investors, I thought why not pitch mine?? I have been working hard and have been very passionate in pursuing my idea for about 18 months, and have had some impressive results. I am not a dotcom millionaire, at least not yet! But it beats flipping burgers.

What is even more interesting about my business idea versus anyone else’s. I believe my idea to be so good and easily accessible, that no matter what your budget is, you can take my idea and earn money on your own.

My name is Scott R. Asher, I am an entrepreneur. I had started this blog to share my twisted and silly ideas with anyone willing to read. I have been unable to return to regular employment after being laid off from my job about three years ago. Making this website and taking part-time freelance positions from anyone willing to pay, is basically what I have been doing to pay my bills for the last 3 years.

  • My Domain cost $10.00 year
  • My hosting cost $60.00 a year
  • My WordPress CMS is is 100% free.

SO THAT BEING SAID! If you just-so-happen to have $70.00 laying around, and are looking for ways to make money, this might interest you.

Can Trucks Disclaim Liability for Broken Windshields?

One of the things about driving on the freeways in a town like Denver is the prevalence of all types of signs, stickers and stupidity.  The other day, I was behind a guy who was tailgating a gravel truck with a sign that said, “Stay Back 200 Ft. – Not responsible for damage to windshield.”  Not surprisingly, a rock flew off the back of the truck and right into his windshield.  He slammed on his brakes, swerved into the lane on the right, nearly smashing a Honda Civic which fortunately was being defensively driven to avoid a pile up.  Of course, the truck kept on going, probably unaware that any damage had occurred behind him and likely feeling comfortable that the truck disclaimed any liability.  I felt glad that I hadn’t been tailgating the guy in front of me or the truck and avoided a collision myself but I started thinking, can that truck really disclaim liability for an object falling off of his truck and breaking a windshield?

I asked a lawyer and here’s what he told me.  The owner of the truck and the driver of the truck are potentially liable for negligence.  They have a duty to avoid causing injury on the roadways including covering their loads to avoid causing injury to other motorists.   So the short answer is no, they can’t duck liability by posting a sign that warns motorists to stay back 200 or 300 feet or whatever.  But he went on to explain how they most likely get away with it repeatedly which is not too surprising.  He guessed that the guy who got hit by the rock didn’t get enough information from the truck to identify it ie, license plate number or other identifying information.  He also pointed out that I was a witness to the event but I didn’t stop or collect any identifying information either.  True, I could have helped that guy but I was in a hurry to get where I was going and wasn’t going to stop – nobody else on the road did either.   Most people on the road have an insurance deductible that is higher than the couple hundred bucks it costs to replace a windshield so they end up coming out of pocket.   But if it happens to you, try to get the license plate number of the truck and make a police report; it could actually work out in your favor.

How to Promote Your Website the Right Way

When we talk about presence building links, it should be something that you focus on. The best type of link building strategy you can employ is one that will focus on marketing and promotion and not just links. A lot of these activities can help to increase sales and brand your website in a positive light. You will have to do very little else if you perform these promotional activities efficiently.

Article Marketing

Article marketing is one of the most popular methods of website promotion and this is where you create and distribute content to article directories. It is a very powerful link building tactic and one that you should definitely use. Most people know about article marketing but believe it or not, very few people know how to do is successfully. Let’s say for example, that you write an article and submit it to ezinearticles.com.You will then get a link from that directory to your website and if the search engines don’t ignore it, you will get some link juice too. Now the average article marketer will use a piece of software and spin the article they submitted into dozens of different variations and then submit it to other article directories and get some links. Again if the search engines don’t ignore these links they will get a little more link juice.

It’s really simple isn’t it?

How about an alternative that will allow you to get links for some other websites too? If you want to stay ahead of your competition then the topic and the quality of your writing needs to be considered. A well written topical article is more likely to be taken from an article directory and placed on someone else’s website which means another link for you. Makes sense doesn’t it? When writing articles for article directories you should avoid writing articles on how to buy your products or services as such articles are not going to get the attention you require. Instead you need to write real informational articles that people want to read. Doing this will give you more options when it comes to getting links too.

Using HubPages and Other Social Media Sites

Squidoo and Hubpages are great places to publish your content too and the search engines seem to love them. I would suggest however that you don’t put junk on these websites and that you read the rules and know how the sites actually work if you want to leverage the links that they can give you.

What Good PR Can Do

Public relations can do wonders for your website and links. If you can get your story published, get radio interviews, or even email interviews, you will be adding to your website promotion. Press releases are a great way to get the word out about your website and if done correctly; can get you a lot of attention and links.

The Power of Affiliates And Viral Marketing

Anytime you can give someone else the HTML code to use to link to your website and product, the better. You at least know that your core search terms are going to be used. This is sometimes the normal approach used in affiliate programs where the affiliate will take your code and place it on their websites. Your website and product get a great deal of promotion and you get more links. You can use this same process for viral marketing. If for example you create a tool or plugin that you are letting people use on their websites for free they will take the code you give them which will include a link to your websites, place it on their website, and hey presto you get another link. Free promotion is great.

Marketing and Advertising For Link Building

Anything that you do to market or advertise your website has the potential to also create links back to your website and of course marketing and advertising can help to increase your profits too. So market your business and watch the links build themselves.

Reciprocal Links & Link Exchanges

Not so long ago SEO was all about reciprocal linking and link exchanges and this was a primary link building strategy. Today however things have changed and search engines won’t give your links the recognition you were looking for because they can see that they are reciprocal. Search engines also look at the quality of the websites that you link to too so you should make sure that you check the websites you are linking to as well. If you have to link to a website that you don’t really like then just use the “rel=nofollow” attribute on your link.

Good Reciprocal Linking Is OK

If you link to some excellent sources then there really is no harm in checking to see if they will give you a link too. There is no penalty for exchanging links and if you gain plenty of traffic and new readers you won’t mind the fact that the search engines have ignored this link.

Marketing ideas for – restaurants, bakeries, delis

Restaurants, bakeries, delis are feeling these tough economic times. If you’re in the business and feeling it, check out the marketing idea I have that will save you.

Have you noticed? People are starting to eat-out more, and signs of a good value are all around us. Eating out is cheap and getting cheaper. For one, Dominos Pizza has come out with the tremendous value of a $5.99 two topping pizza. That value is practically unmatched in the industry, and not to mention their SUPERB quality. They have started pushing much of their advertising towards social media. They catch you when you’re on Facebook, when you’ve got on your profile that pizza is one of your interests. You’re chatting with your friends and that Dominos ad shows up and you think, man that’s a good deal. You get your friends to meet you at Dominos. Social media advertising works.

Another chain has a sweet deal too. Chili’s came up with their 2 for $20.00 menu. You get plenty of good-quality food for two. You would be hard-pressed walking out the door for any less these days. I drove past just the other day and the parking lot was packed! Looks like it’s working.

So how can price mavens be beat? You know when the New Year rolls around, it means everyone has a waist-line on full alert! Now’s the perfect time to implement my marketing idea. Offer portion-controlled meals for families of 3, 4 or 5 for a set price. And you’ve got to use social media to get the message across. A parent can order for the whole family, knowing they will get the balanced meal with the right portions and all for a reasonable price. You can even see a hint of this in Dominos Pizza’s marketing campaign that pushes families sharing meals made from all-natural ingredients. Weight loss is hot. And family portioned meals are even hotter.

If you think that’s already been done and you want to try something brand-new, how about partnering with a local gym. Everyone who eats at your restaurant gets a voucher to try out the gym, or discounts on a year-pass. Combine this gym voucher with a calorie-count menu, and you would absolutely grab the attention of those people who have little time but a bit more income to burn.

Now how do Dominos and Chili’s get people in the restaurants for a meal? Easy. When the type of food they serve is in the interests section of someone on Facebook, or when someone searches for food on google, an ad for their restaurant pops up with a deal that can’t be beat. CEOs of restaurants like these have taken interest in social media and online advertisements to get people interested and hungry. They market their deals and healthy ingredients through groupon and other online advertisements. Once one person comes in to their restaurant and sees what a good deal they’re getting, they’re going to tell their friends, or bring their friends next time they come in. This is the most successful method of advertising of our time. Create an online presence and the people will come. Word of your great restaurant will spread from person to person until it’s reached viral status.

By helping customers fight against their growing waist lines, you could improve your own bottom line in 2011. You know, many companies are getting more profit with less product. Coca-Cola and other soft drink companies have been resizing bottles and pulling off the seemingly impossible: giving the consumer less and getting them to pay more for it! You’ve seen the drinks section in gas stations where the smaller bottles cost only 10 cents less than the big bottles. When it comes to meals, smaller portions usually mean fewer calories. For you smaller portions, pre-portioned family meals, healthy ingredients, and the incentive to exercise will leave you with bigger profit, and a healthy bottom line.

Scott shares – How to succeed on the internet with your web project

I have a theory that the internet is like a field of onions. Each individual website is a many-layered onion, buried within the field. A website gets created on the internet, but no one knows about it. It’s buried in the field. Once that onion gets pulled out of the field, the outermost layer is when the creator tells Person A to check out the website. One layer down. When that Person A takes a look and thinks, “man, that’s cool,” they go tell their friend, Person B, to check it out. That’s the second layer of the onion. See, a website only grows as people tell others to check it out. So the first layer of the website-onion represents when the website creator tells someone to go look at their website, and the second layer represents when that first someone liked what they saw in your website and told someone else to see it for himself. So now you have two people exploring the website. When both Person A and Person B go tell Person C and Person D to go to the website, that’s the third and fourth onion layers. The layers are endless. As word keeps spreading, the layers keep peeling back and the website gets more and more exposed. After enough layers are exposed, The website has reached viral status and has become the next big internet buzz.

You’ve all heard of Huffington Post and Craigslist, right? Well, how did you hear about them? From a friend. Someone told you mid-conversation, “oh, hey, I saw this on this website the other day…” And when you get back to your computer, you’re going to see what they were talking about. With the internet, everyone wants to know what’s the newest and best website up there. Everyone wants to be the one to inform someone else of a cool website first. When they’re talking about a website, more people start visiting it and the number of hits on the website escalate beyond reason.

So really, all you have to do to have a successful website in the onion-field of the internet is to talk about your website. Spread the word. If it’s a good one, it will catch on as people tell their friends, co-workers, anyone else. Once you get enough people talking about your website, you’ll be successful.

And I know this from experience. Before I even got my website all up and ready to go, I was telling people about it. They were all interested and spread the word. Now it’s up with the new layout and new additions on a regular basis, and my numbers just keep on rising.

Strategies to optimize your blog

There are many things you can do to help your website rank within the search engines for specific keyword phrases.

Organic traffic from the major search engines including www.Google.com and www.Yahoo.com consist of highly targeted prospects, as they enter your blog based on keyword searches. Consider the quality of visitors visiting your blog after entering in specific keywords relating to your overall niche or focus. These visitors are likely to spend more time on your blog, as well as return to your blog frequently if your content is relevant to what they are searching for. Better yet, organic traffic is far more likely to convert into RSS subscribers, and if your ads are positioned so that they are heavily focused on your primary niche, you will increase your overall profit potential from quality traffic funneled to you from manual “type in” searches. Thankfully, optimizing your blog so that it is able to appear within the search engines for specific keywords and phrases isn’t all that difficult to do. To begin, log into your WordPress admin panel and click on the Settings tab. Under General Settings make sure that you create a relevant title for your blog. You should consider incorporating your primary keywords or phrase within your blog’s overall title, and that you separate keywords using commas. (Example: Parenting Tips, Techniques and Advice)

Avoid entering in your domain name as your website title, and instead, utilize this space in the best possible way by focusing on optimizing your search engine’s positioning for key phrases that apply to your overall market and target audience. Whenever you create a new post or article for your blog, you will want to implement relevant keywords within each title as well as within the actual content itself. The more you target each article and post, the better your chances at ranking for specific keyword phrases. You will want to make a few more adjustments within your WordPress administration settings. Under the “Membership” option click both fields, “Anyone Can Register” and “User Must Be Registered and logged In to Comment”. Then, click Save Changes. Next, click on the Writing tab to configure this area. Within the Writing section, you will want to add a list of blog ping services.

Pinging your blog is a very important part of search engine optimization and notifies blog directories and online databases that your website has recently been updated. You can choose to set your blog on auto-ping using free plugins and modules that will instantly notify third party websites and directories you’re your website contains fresh content. You can find a list of pinging services at: http://www.dailyblogtips.com/ping-list/

Another element of your blog worth considering is the meta tags that are assigned to your website. Meta tags describe your website and include additional keywords and phrases relating to your overall content and niche. One easy method of assigning meta tags and keywords to every post and article on your website is by installing the “All in One SEO plugin”, available from: http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/all-in-one-seopack.zip

Here is how to quickly set up the All In One plugin so that it works effectively: From within your WordPress admin panel, click on “Settings” and click on the “All In One Plugin” from within the list. Now you will be able to assign a “home title”, which is essentially a title for your entire website.

Note: If you set a blog title within the All in One

Plugin settings field, it will override the blog title that you have set in your default WordPress settings. Next, you will be asked to enter in a “home” description, which essentially is a description of your blog and can include a general title or more information regarding the overall topic of your website.

Finally, you will be required to enter in relevant keywords relating to your website. You will want to separate these by a comma, spacing them correctly:  When it comes to search engine traffic, you need to ensure that these directories can easily find your blog and that whenever a potential visitor actively enters in specific keywords related to your blogs topic, that your website is pulled and processed within the results page. To do this, WordPress blogs make it exceptionally easy by allowing you to plug in ‘tags’ each time you write a post. With a free plugin, you are able to specify relevant keywords relating to your content that will help your blogs pages appear whenever someone using a search engine like www.Google.com enters in similar keyword phrases.

Creating content for your blog

Without content, you have no way to attract traffic, no way to get users to return to your website, and no possible way to build brand awareness and develop credibility as an authority in your chosen niche. Content is king and when it comes to building a profitable blog, content is the most important element of your entire campaign. When it comes to building content that will entice visitors to return to your site and essentially become “sticky”, you want a solid balance between offering high quality, relevant content and material that incorporates your primary keywords phrases.

You are writing for PEOPLE first and search engines second, so keep that in mind when outsourcing or writing your blog’s material. To begin, in order to create content that will help optimize your website’s ranking within the search engines, you need to conduct keyword research. We will cover a quick start process to developing keyword swipe files in the next chapter, for now; let’s take a quick look at why keywords are so important in the development of your blog.

Let’s say you have a blog about golf, and you found the keyword phrase “golf ball comparisons” You might want to create a blog post-titled “Golf Ball Comparisons – The Top 10 Golf Balls Reviewed”. Then you would simply write an article based on that topic encompassing relevant keywords. For example, you might find the following phrases: Golf ball comparisons, Golf balls compared, Golf ball reviews. These are all similar phrases, and you can choose to do one of two things. You can either choose to create a different article for each phrase, or you can create a single article and include all of the phrases in the text of the article and the tags for the post. I would write a separate article for each phrase, but I would space them out a few days apart so that they don’t appear to be repetitive. This allows you to target both keyword phrases while keeping your blog updated with fresh content.

When creating my blogs, I focus on adding in 10-15 posts to start, adding in 2-3 posts / articles per week on a regular basis. These articles and posts are usually based on the keyword phrases that have the best balance between traffic and competition. Once I have at least 10 posts published, I will add in some posts that will be posted automatically at regular intervals. If I have a very large list of keywords, I will add about 52 posts and set them to update weekly for one year. If I found fewer keywords, I will update monthly, and I only need to create 12 posts. Ideally you want to update at least once per month. Weekly is better, the more often you update the more traffic you are likely to get. The search engines also prefer sites with fresh content. They tend to rank pages on sites that update often higher than pages on sites that are rarely updated and their spiders (otherwise referred to as “crawlers” will visit your site far more frequently if it’s regularly updated).

Choosing your niche market

When it comes to building profitable online websites and blogs, you need to first evaluate potential niche markets. You need to have a strict focus on your overall subject matter and content so that you can effectively target a specific audience. Generic, all -encompassing blogs are not only harder to market, but far more difficult to maintain. Choosing a niche market is exceptionally easy, and it all begins by evaluating existing competition, traffic, potential advertising channels, products and services that you can advertise and general demand. Gauging the amount of potential traffic will help you determine whether a niche is a viable option or not. You want to focus on evergreen markets that will be in demand for many years to come, rather than short term markets that are based on fads or time limited trends. When evaluating traffic potential, you want to determine whether you will be able to generate targeted traffic to your website, as well as the overall costs involved based on existing competition within the market. Consider markets such as weight loss, self help, relationships, or online business niches including work at home, job hunting, start up businesses or online marketing. One of the easiest ways of choosing a niche market is to investigate the number of affiliate products that are available online. Since you will be using these affiliate campaigns to monetize your blog, evaluating the number of products available for purchase will help determine whether a potential niche is sustainable or not. Why? Because the more products available in the open market, the more likely that the niche market is a viable one. These merchants have already done the market research for you!

The easiest way to get started in selectively identifying potential niche markets is to create a product swipe file of affiliate programs that you can join later on, and incorporate into your blog. We do this by browsing through the Internet’s largest digital product marketplace, www.ClickBank.com

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Desperate (hungry) Buyers
  • Overall market size
  • Available Products To promote

When it comes to building highly profitable blogs, one market that always produces results is the desperate buyers market. Desperate buyers are looking for an immediate solution to a nagging problem, the kind of problem that keeps them up at night desperate and struggling to find a way to resolve their dilemma. These groups of buyers are far easier to target because they are easy to identify and cater to since you already know what problem they are looking to resolve.

Market Size

Once we begin looking at desperate buyer markets, we need to determine the actual market size, to determine overall profitability. We want to focus on markets that are consistently growing. When combining market size with the desperate buyers community, it’s important to consider that it’s always best to focus on a market with «continued problems» rather than a market who can solve their problem with a single product or service. This is because an important aspect to profitable blogging is in being able to consistently sell products to repeat visitors and subscribers that are added to our RSS feeds and newsletters. If a single product will solve the entire problem that your target audience is seeking help with, it will be extremely difficult to consistently monetize your website without having to scope out new prospects on a regular basis.

Introduction to blogging

One of the easiest ways to build an online business, regardless of experience or skill is by using the power and simplicity of blog software. With a platform such as WordPress, you could easily create a dynamic website without ever having the traditional start up costs or technical know-how usually involved in online business. Not only is blogging one of the easiest methods of building your website, but it’s also one of the fastest methods of creating an in-depth network of profitable websites, each one focusing on a different niche market. One of the greatest aspects to building an online business using blogs is in just how incredibly automated You can use the internal drip feed functionality to leak out content on specific intervals, or pre-fill your blog will enough content to last for an entire month, or even year, adding in updates only as you find time. You can also make your blog as interactive as you would like it to be just by uploading and “activating” modules and add-on’s that will make your website more dynamic and increase visitor retention. If you are not experienced with web design or don’t have the funds to invest in hiring a seasoned designer, blog platforms solve that problem as well. With over 15,000 blog themes and templates to choose from, you can upload a variety of skins that will transform the way your blog looks. Spending just a few hours of your time customizing an existing theme is a cost effective, easy method of developing an original website that represents your brand’s message.

Looking for a good marketing idea?

This last week I took a road trip to Las Vegas and broke down on the side of the road. The over all experience was unconformable, but somehow I managed to take it in stride and asked myself, in-spite of the adversity how can I some how profit from it. You will never guess what I have in mind! This is the true essence of blogging. I have what I think might be the best idea ever! You are welcome to use it, if you need it.

There is a 100 mile stretch of hwy on the I-7o in Utah that offers no services. Most of Utah on the I-70 has very little to offer in the way of services, but the 100 mile stretch between Green River and Salina is especially difficult and downright boring. After taking this drive for many years, I jokingly dubbed the drive, the 100 mile stare. Basically you sit there for a good 90 mins trying to stay awake, counting mile markers to past the time.

This week either me or my wife crossed the 100 mile stare 3 times in less than 5 days, on our way driving to Las Vegas. With todays advancements in wifi and radio I am surprised something has not been done to provide some-sort of radio station that can be used by drivers or at the very least by local companies to help drivers passing though with local information. It would almost be nothing to provide good quality talk radio show or almost anything. Nowadays, you can tune your radio to almost any format you want, so why not help those traveling to endure the 100 mile drive. If it where me, I would broadcast Phil Hendrie, it is imposable to fall asleep to him! The marketing opportunities are really endless. Lil plug for phil! 🙂 And by the way it is good to have Phil back! love ya the show!!! This has really got to be a cash-cow, where else can you get the un-deveide attion of someone for 90 mins! This might be something for the infomercial people to look at.

*Just a fun fact: There seems to many new added signs discouraging driving if you are sleepy so I am sure it is a problem that would save life’s. The price tag for something like this can’t be more than a 100k

The other thing I seen while traveling was the new posted speed limits to 80. I really wrote this without having any idea of the numbers that travel this highway yearly, the revenue generated just from breakdowns must be staggering. But this idea was 100% free, but the next one is going to cost ya!!!

Looking to avoid outrageous airline baggage fees?

Looking to save even more on the cost your flight? If you are a hardball flight bargain hunting maven and looking to save even more money on your vacation, I have just what you are looking for.  I don’t do a ton a flying, thank God! But these stupid baggage junk fees have really got me thinking. Like most of you I am trying to save a buck. With these fees, what exactly are you paying for? They call it a baggage fee, but it’s really a poke for a few more bucks. When your bag is lost, your out the extra money you paid and your bag, and that just silly. Baggage fees can add hundreds to the cost of your trips, as it turns out these are just airline junk-fees. Hopefully you will never again have to pay baggage fees and get nothing in return.

Pros to shipping your luggage vs. paying a baggage fee.

You get a tracking number – There is nothing worse than paying to have your luggage on the airplane, then when you get to your destination, it’s lost and having to pay for it.  The funny thing is – The loss of your bag won’t even get your baggage fee back! With shipping, not only will you have a tracking number, you will have insurance to cover your personal items. You have to remember, the airlines are not providing you a service. They are just looking to poke you for a few more bucks. So if your going to pay, you should get the best service you can for your money.

Door to door service – Fedex and UPS will pick your luggage up from your house and it will be waiting for you when you arrive! (Most destinations accommodate packages for guest.)

No Restrictions – When you ship your bag you can ship any size with no restrictions. With the airliners, over weight, over sized, too many, can’t lock it, just too many to remember… and talk about service, now your items will be waiting for you at your destination. Never having to lug-it around in the airport. Now that’s is service worth paying for! No more back breaking, busted wheels, TSA panties sniffers, items you can’t bring, weight restrictions, size restrictions, damage or theft of your luggage.

Cheaper? – Yes! With shipping, you don’t even need luggage, all you need is a plain old box!

And all this adds up to a happier you!
